窗外春色好 正当读书时

World Book Day

4月23日星期五是世界读书日，常州威雅小学部以一整天精彩纷呈的活动来纪念这一天。

On Friday 23rd April, the Primary School embarked upon an exciting day of events to mark World Book Day.

在这特别的一天，孩子们不必穿上校服，只需要带上他们最喜欢的书籍与同学、朋友分享。小学部的每个楼层都贴满了五颜六色的荐书海报。这些海报皆是出自他们的老师之手。

Dressed in non-uniform, the children arrived on this special day, carrying their favourite book, which they would share with classmates and friends. Greeting them on each floor was a bank of colourful posters from their teachers, all specifying their own favourite books, too.

在英语和语文课上，老师们借着这次特别的机会想要将对于阅读的热爱传递给孩子们。沐浴着明媚的春光，一些孩子们选择在课间将书本带到户外，边玩耍边讨论阅读心得。

In our English and Chinese lessons, the teachers took this unique opportunity to share their passion for reading, and all were very impressed with the way the children have embraced their reading so enthusiastically. Bathed in Spring sunshine, some children even took the opportunity to take their books out at break-time and continue their discussions during play.

午饭过后，周五例行的小学部集会一改往日面貌，取而代之的是以世界读书日为主题的特别集会。首先，孩子们观看了Philpott先生剪辑的视频短片。短片集结了所有老师的荐书海报。孩子们惊喜地在荧幕上找到了自己授课老师的推荐书籍。

After lunch, the normal Friday assembly was replaced with a special extended World Book Day Assembly. Firstly, the children were treated to a video compiled by Mr Philpott of all the teachers’ favourite book posters, with the children excitedly recognizing their own teachers’ books on the screen.

接下来一个环节是阅读量学院大比拼。十二个学院全部参赛，每个学院选五位代表上台参加，每位代表出自不同年级。这是一个有关于畅销书籍和阅读的知识小竞赛，由小学部的高层领导团队创设。对于台上的小小参赛者们来说，这是个不小的挑战，对于观众席上的学生们来说，问答活动的反响也非常热烈。在各年级一路激烈地比拼过后，Turner学院脱颖而出，成为总冠军。

We then moved into the ‘The Great House Book Quiz’. Each of the twelve Houses chose five representatives, one from each Grade, who came on to the stage to answer questions about books and reading. The quiz, created by Primary SLT, was a great hit as the children, both on stage and in the audience, pitted themselves against the questions. After a tightly fought contest all the way through the Grades, Turner House finally came out overall winners!

这场特别的集会以观看电影《101斑点狗》画上完满的句点。该电影改编自多迪・史密斯的同名小说。一、二年级的学生观看的是1961年迪士尼拍摄的动画版本，而三到五年级观看的是1996年的真人电影版本。格伦・克罗斯在该片中出演的冷血反派库伊拉深入人心。

The special assembly was concluded with a viewing of two versions of the film “101 Dalmatians” based on the classic book by Dodie Smith. Grades One and Two watched the wonderful 1961 animation version by Walt Disney, whilst Grades Three to Five watched the 1996 live action adaptation starring Glenn Close as the terrifying Cruella de Vil.

本次世界读书日活动得到了师生们很高的评价，看到“热爱读书”已经在孩子们之间蔚然成风，小学部高层领导团队倍感欣慰。感谢我们所有的老师为本次世界读书日活动付出的努力，是你们的用心准备让这一天成为了值得铭记的一天。

Both children and teachers alike have given highly positive feedback about our World Book Day and SLT have been delighted to see that the message “Love of Reading” is now firmly weaved into the fabric of the Primary School. Thank you to all our teachers for making World Book Day such a lovely day for the children!
