欢迎来到本周的常州威雅中学部优秀艺术作品鉴赏板块。这周我们将在作品中展示“艺术家的研究”，以及艺术史。艺术史课程由艺术总监领导授课，是对高年级学生开放选修的课外课程之一。这门课建立在IGCSE和A Level课程的基础之上，旨在帮助学生拓宽其对艺术家和艺术史了解的深度和广度。当申请大学时，我们的艺术家能够通过自己的作品，及跨越时空的思维，诠释出他们对艺术创作的独到理解。我们希望您能喜欢这些出自威雅年轻艺术家们的优秀作品。
Welcome to the next addition in Wycombe Abbey School’s Secondary Artwork of the week. This week we are showcasing the idea of ‘artist’s research’ and art history in our work. One of our senior ECAs is Art History, led by our Head of Art. The ECA builds on the work of IGCSE and A Level classes and allows pupils to add depth and breadth to their knowledge of artists and the history of art. In their applications to universities, our artists are able to demonstrate a great understanding of artistic endeavour through place and time and reflect on this in their own work. We hope you enjoy another excellent work from Wycombe Abbey Artists.

Shirley's commentary
“环境”是我本学年艺术项目的主题。我的创作风格是受到了莫奈、梵高、乔治修拉、爱德华蒙克和亚历克斯卡茨的影响，他们大多都是印象派画家。我的灵感来源是自然和四季的变化，所以如果你有机会看到我这学年的所有作品的话，你会发现它们大部分都是风景油画。 印象派画风是我最喜欢的画风之一，因为它的特点就是丰富、鲜明的色彩运用。我创作这幅作品的初衷就是给观众带去心灵上的平静，并传递出自然的美好。在新冠疫情爆发之前，我于家乡南京的中山陵梅花山风景区拍摄下了一张照片，这便成为了我油画作品的雏形。我之所以选择梅花作为主体是因为梅花寓意着平安、快乐、健康。常言道“梅花香自苦寒来”。疫情爆发时正值严寒，梅花象征坚强的品格，而太阳则代表着希望与美好。梅花在冬日暖阳下张扬怒放，代表着对未来充满期待和向往。我大概花费了将近二十个小时来完成这幅画。画上的梅花雕塑是我自己用黏土徒手捏的，没有借助任何辅助工具。因此，每一片花瓣，乃至纹路都是独一无二的。待黏土风干之后，我用稀释了的油画颜料给花瓣上色，并用胶水将其粘在画布上。我对这次的成品很满意, 也希望你能喜欢。
The theme for my project is ‘Environment’. I was inspired by Monet, Van Gogh, George Seurat, Edward Munch and Alex Katz, also most of them are impressionists. My inspirations are mainly from nature and the changing seasons, so if you look through my previous artworks and you will find that most of them are landscape oil painting. Impressionism is one of my favourite styles because the colours that artists used are vivid and various. My concepts for this painting are to give a sense of tranquillity towards the viewers as well as let viewers realise the beauty of nature. The primary source that I used for this painting was the photo that I took during the post-pandemic era in my hometown Nanjing. It is a famous tourist attraction called The Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum Plum Blossom Hill. A Plum Blossom is a symbol of fortune, happiness and health. there is an old saying in Chinese ‘The fragrance of plum blossoms comes from the bitter cold’. The coldness can be a metaphor for the pandemic era and plum blossoms can be seen as a expectation of bright future with everything getting better soon. I spent approximate twenty hours on this outcome; I used my hand to shape the air-drying clay into plum blossom petals and once it dried, I then used dilute oil paints to paint on them. Those flower sculptures were stuck onto the canvas piece by piece after I finished the painting. By the way, I am very pleased of my final outcome for the whole project and hope you like it as well.
